Research Forms

These are the basic forms that I'm currently using for my research. Most are loosely based on Bygones and/or standard forms used all over the place.

[BI] Biography.doc - Focused on the data associated with an individual. Includes checklist of "usual sources" expanded as needed.

[BIB] Master Bibliography.doc - My master source list formatted according to EE.

[FG] Family Group.doc - Standard Family Group Sheet. Only sources documented are for the marriage and any children that don't have BI pages.

[HOU] House_Prop Hist.doc - Shows how a piece of property changed hands and went in and out of mortgage over time. May also show modifications to the house.

[LOC] Location Ovrvw.doc - Gives an overview of a location, it's various configurations (e.g. mergers and splits with other counties), and where it's various records might be found with accessibility notes. A brief listing of major surnames being researched in the location is also included.

[LOG] Research Log.doc - Brief entry for each research objective. Acts as master list of research done.

[NT] Research Notes.doc - Detailed entry of an individual research objective. Includes long and short forms of citation, research results and analysis for just that source. Can refer to other notes (e.g. handwritten) or files.

[REP] Repository Ovrvw.doc - Similar to the location overview, but focused on a single repository. I usually put courthouses in the location overview and libraries in the repository overview format (although they are usually mentioned in the location overview), since libraries usually contain information applicable to more than one location. [An exception can be made for really small library collections that focus only on one location to cover them like I do courthouses.] For the Internet, I split by major domains (e.g. Ancestry, HeritageQuest) eventhough, according to EE, the Internet is the repository. I do this for clarity.

Notes Forms

US Census - A single Excel form that gives worksheets for each US census as well as a master index. Can be used as input to a Research Note or for standalone analysis (e.g. when reconstructing neighborhoods and/or families).

British Census - Same purpose as US Census.

Business Forms

Speaking Contract

Research Contract

Intermediate Report (for long-term projects)

Final Report

Sarah, when I download it, the master bibilography form is blank except for the title.

Thank you so much for sharing these. Great ideas!
