Research Recommendations: Genealogical Writing: Percentages
by Michael J. Leclerc

I have often referred to The Copyeditor’s Handbook: A Guide for Book Publshing and Corporate Communications by Amy Einsohn. For those starting out on their writing, it is an excellent resource for writing skills, and editing as well. Writers can never totally copyedit themselves, but an understanding of basic copyediting skills will make you a better writer.

There is a simple writer's trick that nearly always works. When you send a manuscript, enclose a stamped, self-addressed post card, with the name of the magazine and the article on it, and ask them to slip it in the mail. They will nearly always do so, and you'll know the manuscript has been received, and even roughly when.
